Who is sick of the PLS bear?

Hi everyone,

School is out over here and it's nice to have a break. My kids have school for a bit more and I'm still busy with some speech things in order to earn a bunch of interesting CEUs (that I'll elaborate on over the course of the year ahead).

But I'm looking at my planner for the summer and I'm wondering where I'm going to get in some relaxation. I'm taking a class towards my doctorate and it's essentially a research methods course... so that's going to take up some time...

Have I mentioned a bit about getting a doctorate? First of all, it's not a PhD. It's an EdD which is a doctor of education. The EdD is meant for people who are interested more in clinical application versus a career in research.

I think I'm narrowing in on a dissertation topic. At first I wanted to study burnout in SLP, which I think is understudied. I believe there is a lot of research related to burnout in other helping professions like nursing and teaching, but what about speech?

However after taking some additional classes about organization learning, program evaluation ,instructional design, and adult learners, I'm now thinking about looking at the preparation of clinical supervisors when taking SLP graduate students. PT and OT have some different requirements that seem to be more robust but also come with some professional distinction.

What would you be most interested in studying? Burnout or clinical supervision preparation?

I've completed another video about an assessment. This time it's the PLS 5 in Spanish. Many of you are already familiar with it. But if you aren't, this video will talk you through the whole thing. I hope everyone isn't getting tired of assessment videos because I have a lot more coming up!

My major criticism of the PLS is that you have to transition between the easel and the manipulatives and then back to the easel. With preschoolers who want to play, they don't want to put the bear away. Also there are some tasks that are kind of annoying like "here are some crayons, tell me the color names, we aren't going to color, now we are going to put them away" or "here are some books, tell me about them, okay we aren't going to read them, now we put them away." I mean, that's hard for little ones.

Watch here: PLS 5 in Spanish

Anyway, have a good week ahead and I hope you have a nice Memorial Day,

Hi everyone, I'm walking through the TOLD P5 this week. It's a solid test that I actually forget about. I like that it feels like bulky and long than the CELF. It feels like a real production when you have to give the CELF. But with the TOLD P5, you feel like you get solid info but you didn't have to work too hard to get it! I've given the TOLD P5 before, but I'd like to hear what you think about it! Watch: TOLD P5 BUT you might be just DONE with any speech therapy related if you are on...

Hi everyone, Have you given the TILLS before? The reason I ask is that I do a complete walkthrough of the test in the video below, but as someone who has never given it. So it's my first impressions and honest reaction to the test as I go through it. First of all, 15 subtests? Man, I'm wondering if that's the largest number of subtests I've seen on an assessment before. It certainly feels like the assessment is doing a lot... maybe too much? That's just one thing I noticed about the test. I'd...

Hi everyone, Another Sunday and I've got the Goldman Fristoe Test of Articulation in Spanish (3rd edition) for today's assessment walkthrough and review. If you are familiar with the GFTA in English, it's helpful because you know what to do with this assessment. In the video I compare both the Spanish protocol to the English one. I think it's valuable potentially as a teaching tool for SLPs who might think if I test speech sounds in English only, it's fine. Well, in the video I show you how...
