Long time no see, friends! My last emails came out in June when I was on a roll with a new video every week. But July got busy (college visits with my older son and also work work) and I didn't have time to edit my videos or send any emails. I guess that's just life! Looking over my analytics, I can see that no one really wanted to watch my assessment videos. That is okay, I will rebound lol! I'm really putting them out there for the world to find them when they need them. And I'm thinking May and June are times when it's really the last thing any of us want to watch, especially when we are coming out of the trenches of spring assessment. But I wanted to send you something that I think you will really like. Here is a terrific hub for communication boards that are medically-focused. It's called Communication Tools and Materials and it's free. Enjoy! I've actually been doing something different over the past several months and it has been working PRN (per diem so not even part-time) at a hospital. This has been a new direction for me and I've been learning a lot. I'm grateful to have this experience and it's made me a better SLP. I think any exposure to alternate settings and/or populations can only grow your skills. Feel free to reply back if you are interested in learning more about hospital work. I am thinking about sharing more, but only if you are interested. My heart is with pediatric populations, but I am always up for new experiences that will lead to my growth. In fact this summer I became a Lingraphica Certified Professional. Me with my Lingraphica loaner :) I was able to earn some (free) CEUs, brush up my ACC, and gain access to a loaner device. It was pretty fantastic. If this sounds like something you would like to do, here's more information. I'm going to write up a blog post about it, but I haven't gotten around to it just yet. ***** I'm back to work this coming week, working at a school, which will be my full-time focus. I'm actually feeling excited about returning and I think a lot of that is the transition back is not as stark as it might have been in previous summers. For example, the summers where I didn't do much, the back to work transition was harder. But I've been occupied this summer and this transition feels good. I'm ready. I had a rough year last year and I'm optimistic that things will be better. The year was rough because of leadership issues. Well, that's fixed so I'm hoping for a familiar daily routine without some of the ongoing issues I had in the past. Have a great week ahead!! |

Finding a good test of word finding is important because we've all had those clients who really struggle to find words. What I like about this test is that there are two main components. The first easel you administer to test clients' abilities to find a word when given a picture, without a picture, and then verbs. Then after you are done with that, you get out the comprehension check easel....
