Adore the BESA - Bilingual English Spanish Assessment

Hi everyone,

Another Sunday has arrived and I've got the assessment everyone has been waiting for: the BESA Bilingual English Spanish Assessment. This assessment has been making waves in the bilingual SLP community ever since it debuted. Finally a thorough walkthrough!

Video: BESA Bilingual English Spanish Assessment

In the video, I go through the Spanish protocol in depth, covering the phonology, morphosyntax, and semantics sections as well as what other forms are in the assessment. Those forms include the English protocol, the Inventory to Assess Language Knowledge (ITALK), and Bilingual Input-Output Survey (BIOS). It is a really nice addition to your therapeutic test library.

The biggest limitation is that it is only normed a small age range (roughly 4 to 7 ish); however, they have normed it for a larger group, I believe. You can find norming information for ages 3 to 9 online. I'll link it when I find it. Also I heard a rumor they are either coming out with a revision to include a wider sample size or it will be included in a sequent version. Anyway, it's a little complex to score, but a really lovely data point to add to assessment reports of bilingual students.

Watch it here: BESA Bilingual English Speech Therapy Assessment and let me know your thoughts!

Hi everyone, I'm walking through the TOLD P5 this week. It's a solid test that I actually forget about. I like that it feels like bulky and long than the CELF. It feels like a real production when you have to give the CELF. But with the TOLD P5, you feel like you get solid info but you didn't have to work too hard to get it! I've given the TOLD P5 before, but I'd like to hear what you think about it! Watch: TOLD P5 BUT you might be just DONE with any speech therapy related if you are on...

Hi everyone, Have you given the TILLS before? The reason I ask is that I do a complete walkthrough of the test in the video below, but as someone who has never given it. So it's my first impressions and honest reaction to the test as I go through it. First of all, 15 subtests? Man, I'm wondering if that's the largest number of subtests I've seen on an assessment before. It certainly feels like the assessment is doing a lot... maybe too much? That's just one thing I noticed about the test. I'd...

Hi everyone, School is out over here and it's nice to have a break. My kids have school for a bit more and I'm still busy with some speech things in order to earn a bunch of interesting CEUs (that I'll elaborate on over the course of the year ahead). But I'm looking at my planner for the summer and I'm wondering where I'm going to get in some relaxation. I'm taking a class towards my doctorate and it's essentially a research methods course... so that's going to take up some time... Have I...
