πŸ’—Are you going to ISHA? I'll be there!

February has arrived! πŸ’

Wow, January flew by and I'm hoping that February is a fresh start in so many ways. January wasn't a great start to the year, am I right? It was a rough one for our country and boy did that month drag on or what?

February in Illinois brings ISHA, our state convention. I've been to ISHA a lot over the years and I've always liked it. The last time I was there was in 2019 and back then I actually made a video about it: What ISHA is like. Funny to think that it probably will be pretty different since this year they are holding it in Tinley Park, IL. I watched the video and wow the years have aged me...

But I'm going to ISHA this year and I'll be presenting two talks. The first one is about using the SLAM cards to elicit a language sample with bilingual children. It's something I've written about on the blog, but this time I'll talk about implementation live. Secondly I will be presenting on running an IEP meeting in Spanish. I want to be clear that I am not saying we need to be translators, but in fact we need to be sure to invite a translator to our meetings by law. But I think knowing the relevant vocabulary in Spanish can build bridges with families.

Will I see you at ISHA?

All the best, Sarah πŸ’˜

Hi everyone, I'm back at it this Sunday releasing an assessment-focused video. Last week, we discussed the Receptive One Word Picture Vocabulary Test, Spanish-Bilingual Edition, 4th Edition (click to watch last week's). This week I'm talking about it's expressive companion test: the Expressive One Word Picture Vocabulary Test, Spanish-Bilingual, 4th Edition or the EOW PVT SB4 (click to watch) I walk you through the scoring of this assessment. One thing I discuss is that I've heard that this...

Hi everyone, The good news is that 2026 is going pretty good for me, definitely a year of new learning. However, 2024 and 2025 were both two of my worst years ever. I had a lot of hopes for 2025 because it was my year in the Chinese zodiac (I'm the snake). It held so much promise and then in the end it was bust. *cue tears* LUCKILY, it seems like 2026 is slowly becoming a wonderful year where I'm learning a ton of new skills and enjoying the process. I can't wait to share more in subsequent...

Hi everyone, Like I said last week, spring is making me so happy. I just looked outside and saw GREEN BUDS on the trees. That means baby squirrels are next! This squirrel family always has babies in the spring and I can't wait. The babies are so cute and silly. Anyway, I'm back uploading speech therapy related videos on YouTube. I just uploaded a video scoring the CELF4 in Spanish. What a wild test that is in terms of scoring! I'm still waiting for them to release a CELF5 in Spanish and...
